What is Hyperliquid?

Hyperliquid is a fully on-chain perpetual futures exchange built on HyperEVM, a purpose-built Layer 1 blockchain optimized for high-frequency trading. It’s the largest perp DEX by volume and the default platform on Tangerine. Key characteristics:
  • Deep liquidity — largest perp DEX by open interest and daily volume
  • Fast execution — sub-second block times on HyperEVM
  • Wide market selection — hundreds of perpetual markets
  • On-chain order book — fully decentralized, no off-chain matching

Why Hyperliquid is the Primary Platform

Most Tangerine users start and stay on Hyperliquid because it has:
  • The tightest spreads across the most markets
  • The fastest deposit path (2 seconds via HyperEVM)
  • The most straightforward setup (2–3 wallet signatures)

How Tangerine Integrates with Hyperliquid

Tangerine uses Hyperliquid’s agent wallet system. When you complete setup:
  1. Tangerine generates a local signing key (never sent to any server)
  2. You approve that key as an agent on Hyperliquid via your main wallet
  3. Tangerine uses the agent key to sign all subsequent trade orders
Your main wallet retains full ownership of the account. The agent key can only trade — it cannot withdraw funds.

Fees

Tangerine routes orders through a registered builder on Hyperliquid. You can optionally approve a builder fee of up to 0.1% during setup. Hyperliquid’s base trading fees apply in addition to any builder fee. See Hyperliquid’s documentation for current fee tiers.
